Exegesis of the saying of Allah the Exalted: (Reclining on couches whose inner linings are of brocade, and the fruits of the two gardens are low-hanging)]
Allah the Exalted said: RECLINING ON COUCHES WHOSE INNER LININGS ARE OF BROCADE [Ar-Rahman: 54] Meaning: They enjoy this fruit while in a state of reclining. Accordingly, the word (reclining) is a circumstantial phrase describing the subject of the omitted verb,Meaning: they enjoy or partake of the fruit while reclining,And regarding reclining, it was said: for this is the state of ease; for a person is most at ease when he is reclining,And it was said: reclining,Meaning: leaning on cushions to the right and left and behind the back. (On couches) meaning: sitting on couches. (Whose inner linings are of brocade) meaning: the lining of the couch, which is what is adjacent to the couch, (is of brocade), which is thick silk brocade. As for the top of these couches, it is of fine silk, which is thin silk brocade, and all of it is of silk.
Allah the Exalted said: [Ar-Rahman: 54] Reflect on or visualize this state! A person is reclining, at peace, and at rest. He wants to partake of these fruits. Does he rise from the place where he is settled, reclining, to take the fruit? No,Allah clarified that by His saying: [Ar-Rahman: 54] The scholars said: Whenever he looks at a fruit and desires it, the branch hastens until the fruit is before him. He does not need to exert himself or stand up; rather, he is reclining, looking at the fruit and desiring it, so it descends to him by the command of Allah (Mighty and Majestic), even though it is inanimate. But Allah the Exalted gave it a sense to descend to him when he desires it. Do not be surprised; most trees today face the sun! Look at the faces of the leaves at the beginning of the day; you will find them facing the east. At the end of the day, they face the west. They have a sense.Likewise: [Ar-Rahman: 54] It is near. It senses when a man or woman looks at it, so it descends until it is before him.
