Causes for Combining Prayers in the Rain, During Travel, and Other Circumstances

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Then know, O dear listener,That combining has a cause: which is hardship or the likelihood of hardship: hardship, as we mentioned, in the rain.
Among these is when the night is cold with a wind that causes people pain; in that case, combining prayers is permissible due to the need for it, and because the hardship of reaching the mosque in such a condition is greater than the hardship of reaching the mosque in the rain.
Likewise, combining is permissible for a sick person for whom it is difficult to pray every prayer at its time, whether that is due to physical weakness, or an inability to retain urine, feces, or wind; because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) permitted the woman with irregular bleeding to combine prayers, as it was difficult for her to perform ablution for the time of every prayer. Therefore, anyone whose state of ritual impurity is permanent is permitted to combine prayers due to the hardship of performing ablution for every prayer.
Among these,Meaning: what is permitted for combining is: if a person intends to travel and fears that it will not be easy for him to pray the upcoming prayer at its time, he may combine,For example: if the second prayer coincides with him being in an airplane or in a car that he cannot stop, or something similar, he may combine because it is difficult for him to pray the upcoming prayer at its time. And combining—praise be to Allah—is broad.
Among these,Or among the reasons for which combining is permitted is travel: if a person is traveling, he is permitted to combine, whether he is moving or staying,But we command the one who is moving to combine and say: combine following the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him),And to the one who is staying, we say: it is better not to combine, and if you combine, there is no harm. This is if he is not in a town where prayer is performed in congregation. If he is in a town where prayer is performed in congregation, he must pray with the people;Due to the generality of the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): (Whoever hears the call to prayer and does not respond, there is no prayer for him), and because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) granted permission to a man to leave the congregation, giving him a dispensation,So when he turned away, he called him and said: (Do you hear the call?He said: Yes,He said: then respond). What some common people imagine, that the traveler is not required to pray in congregation, has no basis. Both the traveler and the resident are required to pray in congregation,And the evidence: because no one among the Companions of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) lagged behind him in travel; they all prayed in congregation. And because Allah the Exalted commanded in the prayer of fear that they should pray in congregation while they were traveling and afraid. This indicates that travel does not exempt people from congregational prayer.
