Ruling on sitting with those who smoke

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
A man whose father and brothers smoke, and when he goes to greet them, they smoke in front of him. Should he sit with them or leave?
Are they his sons? The questioner: They are his brothers and his father.

The Shaykh: First: It is obligatory for this man, whose father and brothers smoke, when he goes to them, to advise them, admonish them, guide them, and explain to them the religious, physical, and financial harms of smoking. If they stop, that is what is desired. If they do not stop, he must maintain his ties with them. However, if they are smoking in front of him, then when they start smoking, he must get up from his place; because it is not permissible for a person to sit with people committing sin unless he desires to be afflicted with the same punishment that befalls them.

The questioner: Even if his father tells him: Sit.

The Shaykh: Even if it is his father, a parent is not to be obeyed in disobedience to Allah,As Allah the Mighty and Majestic said:
(14) And We have enjoined upon man [care] for his parents. His mother carried him, [increasing her] in weakness upon weakness, and his weaning is in two years. Be grateful to Me and to your parents; to Me is the [final] destination. (15) But if they endeavor to make you associate with Me that of which you have no knowledge, do not obey them but accompany them in [this] world with appropriate kindness and follow the way of those who turn back to Me [in repentance]. Then to Me will be your return, and I will inform you about what you used to do.
