What is the ruling on smoking during the daytime of Ramadan?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : What is the ruling on smoking during the daytime of Ramadan?

The Shaykh : ... And fasting came as a means of refining the souls, as He the Exalted said in the Noble Qur'an:
decreed upon you is fasting as it was decreed upon those before you that you may become righteous - كُتِبَ عَلَيْكُمُ الصِّيَامُ كَمَا كُتِبَ عَلَى الَّذِينَ مِنْ قَبْلِكُمْ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَتَّقُونَ
[Al-Baqarah 2:183]
So if this person afflicted with smoking can abstain from water and the most delicious food and drink, but cannot abstain from this foul smoke, then he is more deserving of having his fast broken. Especially since, linguistically, it is said "smoking" (shurb al-dukhan) and not "eating" (akl al-dukhan); so it is a drink, and every drink breaks the fast. Is that clear?

The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh: All right.
