Ruling on converting a restroom into a prayer area

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Peace be upon you.

The Shaykh: And upon you be peace and the mercy of Allah.

The questioner: Your Eminence, is it permissible?

The Shaykh: The greeting here is not prescribed; because you have been present since the beginning of the lesson.

The questioner: Your Eminence, is it permissible to convert restrooms—may Allah protect you—into a prayer area?

The Shaykh: Meaning: praying in a bathroom? The questioner: No, but only after they are changed,Meaning: demolished, filled in, and altered.

The Shaykh: I will ask you: why is prayer not permissible in toilets? The questioner: Because it is a place of ritual impurity.

The Shaykh: Because it is impure, and if it is removed and purified, is prayer permissible? The questioner: It is permissible.

The Shaykh: Now, if the ground is impure and you purify it with water, is prayer not permissible on it? The Bedouin who came and urinated in the mosque was ordered by the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to have water poured on his urine, then it was purified and prayer was performed in it. Likewise, if graves are dug up and a mosque is built in their place, prayer is permissible there. Do you not know that the Prophet’s Mosque contained graves of polytheists, which were then dug up and it became the Prophet’s Mosque? Prayer in it is better than a thousand prayers in any other place, except the Sacred Mosque? Did you understand? The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh: Therefore: the ruling revolves with its cause. Now, there is purification of water using chemical substances, such as the purification of impure water and sewers. If these chemical substances are applied to them and they become purified, they become pure, with nothing in them,And take this as a legal principle for yourself: (the ruling revolves with its cause in its existence and absence) .
