Matters that help with balance and quick understanding

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
What are the things that help a student of knowledge, in particular, and a Muslim in general, to have weight and balance,Meaning: leaving practical matters aside, and what are the things that help him understand the texts and the like?
As for the matter of understanding, Allah grants it to whom He wills. That is why, when Ali ibn Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) was asked: [Did the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) leave you with anything? He said: He did not leave us with anything except understanding, which Allah the Exalted grants to a servant in His Book, and what is in this sheet.] His saying: (understanding) indicates that people differ greatly in understanding, and that is indeed the case. Some people read a verse from the Book of Allah and extract many rulings from it, while others read it and extract nothing from it. Look at 'Umar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) when the Ansar said to him: O Commander of the Faithful! How do you bring Abdullah ibn Abbas, who is one of the young people, and leave our sons? So he remained silent and gathered them one day,And he said to them: [What do you say about the saying of Allah the Exalted:
(1) When the victory of Allah has come and the conquest, (2) And you see the people entering into the religion of Allah in multitudes, (3) Then exalt [Him] with praise of your Lord and ask forgiveness of Him. Indeed, He is ever Accepting of repentance.
[Surat al-Nasr: 1-3] .
What do you say about it, you? They explained it by its apparent meaning, they said: Allah commanded His Prophet that when victory and conquest come to him, he should seek forgiveness from Allah and glorify Him with His praise. So he said: What do you say, O Ibn Abbas? He said: I say: It is the approaching of the Messenger of Allah's death,Meaning: that Allah said to him: When this happens, nothing remains for you except to conclude your life with seeking forgiveness and glorification.'Umar said: By Allah, I did not understand from it anything other than this].
So understanding cannot be standardized, but there is no doubt that if a person practices reflection and comprehension, his understanding increases; because this is an instinct, and instinct increases with acquisition. All instincts increase with acquisition.
As for the matter of deliberation and discipline in action and speech, this also is achieved through flexibility, and it is also natural and acquired. Some people, by their nature, are found to be calm, as if they are dragging out their words, so that when they address you,She says: why does this person not speak quickly? And some people are the opposite, having lightness in their speech, actions, and mind. Allah grants His favor to whom He wills, but all these matters are achieved through practice and acquisition. A person trains himself; if he is in a hurry one day, he thinks and says: How can I be deliberate? Why am I speaking? Then, if the matter revolves around an action between leaving it and doing it, the side of leaving it prevails; because if you leave it, you are...
So what requires haste is a different matter.

Question: Is the forbidden clothing of showing off specific to the type, or does it include the manner? And if it includes the manner, what is your opinion of one who shortens his garment or lengthens it, going beyond the custom? The Shaykh: Showing off is general in type and manner, and in being high or low. Even if a rich person wears what a poor person wears, it becomes showing off. If a rich person came out to us with a patched cloak and a patched garment, a dirty garment with no belt, this is showing off, is it not?Are people not looking at him and saying: Look? And likewise the opposite,And for this reason it came in the hadith: (that he forbade the clothing of the two types of showing off) meaning: in going down and going up.
And likewise in the manner, but if we assume that the manner is from the Sunnah, and this man is one who is followed,Meaning: an imam among the people, whose action is not denied but rather followed,So here we say: he applied the Sunnah. But if his action will be showing off and may be a cause of disgust and aversion from him, there is leeway in the matter, and praise be to Allah. The Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) set the limit at the ankles, so there is leeway in all of it. The Companions also did this, letting them hang below half the leg, so the matter is broad, and praise be to Allah. It is not hidden from us all that when Abu Bakr informed the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him): (Whoever drags his garment or his lower garment out of arrogance, Allah will not look at him,He said: O Messenger of Allah! One side of my lower garment is long on me, except that I attend to it. He said: You are not one who does that out of arrogance) .
And when we reflect, we find that if Abu Bakr's lower garment hangs loosely on him, we know that it hangs below half the leg; because if it were to half the leg and then hung to the ground, the private parts would be exposed, and this is what makes a person have leeway in this matter.
So the important thing is that showing off differs according to the person, if he is an imam who is followed, and that people, when they see him, for example,He wore this thing from the clothing, they said: this is the Sunnah, do it, this is good, and for every occasion there is a statement.
And here this meeting ends, and we ask Allah to return us and you to a good return, and to grant us beneficial knowledge, righteous deeds, and a good and abundant provision.
