The ruling on smiling in the faces of disbelievers to gain a worldly objective
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
His Eminence the Shaykh: We work in a company that has disbelievers in it. Is it permissible to be friendly with them to gain a worldly objective, such as smiling in their faces?
[Al-Mujadilah: 22] Do not be affectionate toward the disbeliever,Did you not know that Ibrahim and his people said to their people: [Al-Mumtahanah: 4] The matter is not trivial; what is in your heart is affection for them.
As for dealing with them while you have hatred in your heart, that is a different matter. But to be affectionate toward them, to be hypocritical with them, and to make them understand that they are on a religion and that there is no harm for them if they continue in what they are upon, that is the very essence of what is forbidden.
You will not find a people who believe in Allah and the Last Day having affection for those who oppose Allah and His Messenger, even if they were their fathers or their sons or their brothers or their kindred
Indeed, we are disassociated from you and from whatever you worship other than Allah. We have denied you, and there has appeared between us and you animosity and hatred forever until you believe in Allah alone
As for dealing with them while you have hatred in your heart, that is a different matter. But to be affectionate toward them, to be hypocritical with them, and to make them understand that they are on a religion and that there is no harm for them if they continue in what they are upon, that is the very essence of what is forbidden.
