The Superiority of the First Row and Proximity to the Preacher on Friday

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
His Eminence the Shaykh: Which is better if a person enters on Friday: to sit in the first row far from the preacher, or to sit in the second row close to the preacher in order to pay attention to the sermon and focus on the preacher?

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: (If the people only knew what is in the call to prayer and the first row, and they could not get them except by drawing lots, they would draw lots for them) The call means: the adhan, and this is general,So we say: Be in the first row, and if you like to get closer to the imam for the sake of the sermon, many people now we see are in the first row, but when the preacher comes, they stand up and move around the pulpit to listen. However, now, praise be to Allah, most mosques have loudspeakers in every direction so that a person hears it perfectly. So the important thing is that the Sunnah is to complete the first row, then the next, in all cases.

But there is another thing that should be pointed out: Is it better for me to maintain the right side of the row even if I am far from the imam, or if the right side is far, should I be with the left side?Answer: The second month,Some people say: The right side is better in all cases, even if it is at the end of the row, even if the left side has only one person between it and the imam, and this is not correct.
The right side is better than the left side with equality or closeness, but if the right side is far, then the left side is better for its proximity to the imam, and in order to be in the middle of the imam in the row. And I do not think the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) used to, when they came and entered the mosque, complete the right side first, then come and start with the left side. I do not think that is the case; I think they wanted to get closer to the imam.
