Exegesis of the saying of Allah the Exalted: (And it is indeed a great oath, if only you knew)
Allah the Exalted said: [Al-Waqi'ah: 76-77] Meaning: That which was revealed to Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) is indeed a noble Qur'an,And nobility is intended to mean: possessing goodness, splendor, and beauty, as in the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) to Mu'adh ibn Jabal when he sent him to Yemen and ordered him to make clear to the people that they have a zakah obligation on their wealth,He said: (Beware of the best of their wealth) (The best) is the plural of karimah,And what is meant by it is: the fine, beautiful sheep.
And it is noble: Meaning the Qur'an is noble in its reward, for each letter is a good deed, and a good deed is multiplied tenfold.
It is noble in its effects on the hearts and their rectification, for reciting the Qur'an softens the hearts and necessitates humility before Allah (Mighty and Majestic).
And it is noble in its effects through calling people to the Shari'ah of Allah,As Allah the Exalted said: [Al-Furqan: 52] So the important point is that the Qur'an is noble in every sense of nobility.
Allah the Exalted said: [Al-Waqi'ah: 78-79] The scholars differed regarding the hidden Book,It was said: saying it is the Preserved Tablet, because of His saying, the Exalted: [Al-Buruj: 21-22] .
And it was said: The intended meaning is the books in the hands of the angels,As Allah the Exalted said: [Abasa: 12-16] This opinion was preferred by Ibn al-Qayyim (may Allah have mercy on him) in his book al-Tabyan fi Aqsam al-Qur'an, stating that the intended meaning is the scrolls in the hands of the angels.
And most exegetes are of the opinion that the intended meaning is: The Preserved Tablet.
(No one touches it) Meaning: No one touches this hidden Book except the purified ones, who are the angels. Allah the Exalted purified them from shirk (associating partners with Allah) and sins. For this reason, no sin occurs from the angels; rather, they are obedient to the command of Allah, carrying it out as Allah willed.
Some exegetes went to a strange opinion, saying: The intended meaning of His saying: [Al-Waqi'ah: 79] is: No one touches the Qur'an except a purified person. But this is a weak opinion not indicated by the verse,For if that had been the intended meaning, He would have said: except the purifiers -Meaning: the ones who purify themselves -But he said: THE PURIFIED ONES,Meaning: by Allah (Mighty and Majestic). This opinion is weak, and were it not for the fact that it is found in some tafsirs in people's hands, we would not have addressed it, for it has no value. The correct view is that the intended meaning is the angels.
If we say: If we say that the intended meaning of the hidden Book is the scrolls in their hands, it is clear in His saying: [Al-Waqi'ah: 79] And if it is said that the intended meaning is the Preserved Tablet, then likewise THE PURIFIED ONES may touch it by the command of Allah (Mighty and Majestic), or they may not touch it.
Allah the Exalted said:
(76) And indeed, it is an oath - if you could know - [most] great. (77) Indeed, it is a noble Qur'an
And it is noble: Meaning the Qur'an is noble in its reward, for each letter is a good deed, and a good deed is multiplied tenfold.
It is noble in its effects on the hearts and their rectification, for reciting the Qur'an softens the hearts and necessitates humility before Allah (Mighty and Majestic).
And it is noble in its effects through calling people to the Shari'ah of Allah,As Allah the Exalted said:
So do not obey the disbelievers, and strive against them with the Qur'an a great striving.
Allah the Exalted said:
(78) In a Register well-protected; (79) None touch it except the purified.
(21) But this is an honored Qur'an (22) [Inscribed] in a Preserved Slate.
And it was said: The intended meaning is the books in the hands of the angels,As Allah the Exalted said:
(12) So whoever wills may remember it. (13) [It is recorded] in honored sheets, (14) Exalted and purified, (15) [Carried] by the hands of messenger-angels, (16) Noble and dutiful.
