The ruling on one who travels to establish the Friday prayer
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Is it permissible, O Shaykh, for a resident to travel and establish the Friday prayer in another country?
Is it permissible to go to a country to establish the Friday prayer there? If his intention is to honor the place, it is forbidden; because one does not travel except to three mosques. However, if his intention is to benefit from the imam’s sermon, because it is a beneficial sermon, there is no harm. This is traveling for knowledge, not traveling for the mosque. For this reason, if the imam moves to another country, he would follow him.
The questioner: But he travels, so he himself becomes the imam? The Shaykh: There is no harm in that. This is traveling for the sake of seeking knowledge.
