The Importance of Respecting the Teacher

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
A student of knowledge should respect his teacher and place him in the position of a father. If a father feeds you with what sustains the body, this teacher feeds you with what sustains faith and action. So, respect the teacher as much as possible. Respecting the teacher leads to productivity; because if the teacher sees that his students respect him, he will respect them and increase his productivity and his teaching of them. But if the situation is the opposite, the matter is reversed; meaning, if the professor sees that his students do not respect him, he will not respect them, nor will he strive for their benefit. Rather, he will teach them while hating meeting them. So, respect the teacher. And if he makes a mistake and you are certain of his error, do not stand up before the students to refute him, because this is inappropriate and it diminishes the teacher. If students diminish the teacher, they will not benefit from him. Rather, you can leave it until he leaves the place of the lesson, then speak to him calmly and clarify to him the error you saw. Perhaps you are the one who is wrong. If understanding is reached, one must arrive at the truth with good intentions. If the professor retracts his error in the next meeting, that is what is required. If he does not retract it, then you have an excuse to stand up and raise an objection, not a lesson; meaning, do not stand up as if you are teaching him.She says: "Oh Professor! You made a mistake!" for example. But you raise an objection and say: If someone said such and such, so that the matter is completed in the required manner with respect for the teacher.
I ask Allah the Exalted to make this year of ours a year of good and blessing, and to grant us the ability to act upon what we have learned with sincerity and following [the Sunnah]. Indeed, He is capable of all things.
