The Ruling on Cartoons Described as Islamic, or Animal Films, for Children
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Peace be upon you, O Shaykh. Regarding children—O Shaykh— if a man has sons and brings them videos and Islamic cartoons, or ones that are said to be Islamic, or animal films, or depictions of animals to introduce them to animals, is there anything wrong with that, O Shaykh?
As for the matter of films that show animals, such as birds, beasts of prey, and others, or the creatures of Allah (Mighty and Majestic) in the universe, there is nothing wrong with that. But as for the matter of heroic stories and the like, I do not see them as acceptable. And I give an example of this: There is a story about Muhammad al-Fatih. If a child hears and watches this story, it will ignite in his mind that the hero of heroes in Islam is Muhammad al-Fatih. This is wrong. This has a serious danger that the one who made this film does not realize. It is well known that Muhammad al-Fatih has sins upon him, and we ask Allah for his forgiveness. But it is not befitting for us to teach our boys, from the time their nails are soft, that this man is the hero of Islam, because of that danger.
Likewise, there are films depicting the People of the Trench.Who said: Were the People of the Trench in this form? We do not know. The creation has multiplied since Adam was created until this Ummah.Meaning: It has decreased. Adam’s height was sixty cubits, and the creation has continued to decrease until this Ummah. Who informed us that the People of the Trench were in this form? This is a lie. Then, who knows that their number is as seen? It could be thousands, or less than what is seen. So, in such matters, a person should be alert to the depth of the issue and what the economic result is.
