Medicines containing a large amount of alcohol: Is it permissible to use them for treatment when no alternative exists?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh: Yes.

The questioner: Peace be upon you.

The Shaykh: And upon you peace.

The questioner : Shaykh, regarding medicines that contain a large amount of alcohol, if there is no alternative to this medicine, should a person take it, or is it better for him to be patient with his illness?

The Shaykh : If the medicine contains a large amount of alcohol such that drinking it causes intoxication, then it is not permissible to use it for treatment. However, if the large amount does not cause intoxication, then it is permissible to use it for treatment, on the condition that it is not manufactured in an Islamic country, but rather prepared in the lands of disbelief.

The questioner : I mean, if it causes intoxication, in the case of dire necessity, is it better to take it, or is it better to be patient if the large amount causes intoxication?

The Shaykh : It is not permissible.

The questioner : Even if he does not find an alternative to this medicine?

The Shaykh :
Allah has not made your healing in what is forbidden to you ما جعلَ اللهُ شفاءَكم فيما حُرِّمَ عليكم
.

The questioner : May Allah reward you with good.

The Shaykh : And to you.

The questioner : And beware of that.
