The Shaykh Al-Albani’s remarks on some types of automatic and manual watches.

The Shaykh : Its wonder and eloquence encompass many matters, as we were discussing. A device may cost a high price to assemble, but the criterion is the outcome. This high price will soon be saved in a very short time, whereas other devices that are cheaper than it are indeed cheap, but due to their lack of durability, the result will be that they are more expensive than the first. Indeed, deeds are judged by their outcomes.

The questioner : Ah, like cars. When one buys a used car, he keeps putting things on it, putting things on it.

The Shaykh : Ah, hehe. Do you know that there are manual watches with batteries? The automatic watch is undoubtedly more expensive, but it saves you your whole life. You don’t have to go to the watchmaker and say, “Change my battery,” or “Do you know why the watch stopped? Is it a defect in it or is the battery empty?” You have to go to the watchmaker, and perhaps as soon as he opens it or does anything, it is up to his word and his trust. He will tell you, “There is a defect in it.” Meanwhile, the automatic watch lasts with you for years, so it is more economical.

The questioner : I saw a shoe I liked, O my Shaykh...
