The Shaykh’s clarification that the intellectual and material colonization of the Arabs before Islam existed only prior to Islam and its true teachings, and that with the mere appearance of Islam the scales were turned, and there is no victory except by returning to the true religion

The questioner : The present union is better because here there is intellectual colonization and there is material colonization.

The Shaykh : And who told you that?

The questioner : I am a person from the street...

The Shaykh : Who told you? Here is another point: Who told you that there is only material colonization there? Have you studied history?

The questioner : Bedouins who were inside the desert, what do they need to be colonized intellectually, I mean?!

The Shaykh : Yes, is this the knowledge you are talking about?! This is not knowledge.

The questioner : Before Muhammad (peace be upon him).

The Shaykh : I am talking about before Muhammad, what makes you think it was only intellectual colonization?

The questioner : Material.

The Shaykh : Excuse me, material, what makes you think only?

The questioner : Because I studied, for example, I knew how they were living, their way of life, I mean, it is not as if they were in the desert and an isolated environment and an environment like that.

The Shaykh : Okay, I am asking you a question now: Where did the worship of idols originate from?

The questioner : They inherited it.

The Shaykh : They inherited it!! Where did it originate from, I am telling you, did the first idol that entered the Arab lands originate from the Arab land or did it come from outside?

The questioner : From outside.

The Shaykh : Say I do not know.

The questioner : From outside, from outside, O Shaykh.

The Shaykh : So from outside, many idols entered the lands of the Arabs, and what is this called.

The questioner : 'Amr ibn Luhay.

Another questioner : With the traders, with the traders.

The Shaykh : The first one to introduce what? The worship of idols; and therefore he said - (peace be upon him) - :
That he saw him in the Fire, his she-camels - meaning they were burning him - blazing, and he was in the Fire being punished with the most severe punishment أنه رآه في النار أقتابه - يعني مصارينه - طافية وهو في النار يعذب أشد العذاب
So you are saying: From here we are returning to you the idea that religion needs purification, you are saying the colonization was material, this contradicts the previous history and the subsequent history, how do you imagine that when a colonizer colonizes a people or a nation or a tribe, they colonize them only materially and do not spread their ideas among them?!

The questioner : Intellectually before what is it called.

The questioner : O Shaykh, you are living in the age and you see the Muslim Arabs, their customs differ from country to country, in Oman or in Jordan generally, the customs they acquired from their English colonizers differ from the customs we Syrians acquired from the French, what is the reason? Because each of these two countries has traditions and customs that they spread during their colonization, so it is strange that you claim to be cultured and a student if you separate intellectual colonization from material colonization!! While they do not separate except in the case of the exit of material colonization, what does it leave behind? The intellectual.

The questioner : I meant that, I mean, in the past knowledge was little, I mean, no matter how much they try to influence, for example, if.

The Shaykh : This too, this too, do not blame me, I told you that your information is very shallow, do you not know the philosophy of Plato?!

The questioner : I know.

The Shaykh : Do you know the philosophy of Aristotle?

The questioner : And the Greek civilization and the civilization.

The Shaykh : Allow me, be patient, do you know this thing?

The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh : Is it Arab or what? Greek?!

The questioner : I meant that the knowledge.

The Shaykh : ... Yes, I meant.

The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh: I am asking you.

The questioner : Greek, Greek.

The Shaykh : Okay, did these people who colonized the Arabs not bring their philosophy which they benefited from these philosophers?

The questioner : They bring it.

The Shaykh: All right.

The questioner : They bring it, regardless of it being an isolated environment, but they still bring it.

The Shaykh : Okay, so why did you say earlier that they colonized materially and did not colonize intellectually?

The questioner : I meant that I do not know, the expulsion now, a man is walking in the street, his thinking is received from the West and from the East and from here and from here, a hundred ideas and a hundred lifestyles and a hundred, I do not know what, but I mean, in the past, if they wanted to influence them, they would influence them, but with one thought, either they would call it right or they would call it wrong.

The Shaykh : You are talking wrong.

The questioner : I mean, now.

The Shaykh : You are talking wrong, let us be realistic now and we will speak in bold terms as they say: What do you know of Islamic history, did they have the custom that the man shaves his beard? Say, look?

The questioner : In Islamic history, no.

The Shaykh : Okay, where did we take this custom from?

The questioner : Western.

The Shaykh : Okay, how do you say they do not colonize us intellectually?!

The questioner : I did not deny, I am saying that the matter is more difficult now!

The Shaykh : Did he not deny, O Abu Mu'awiyah?

The questioner : He denied.

The Shaykh : How did you not deny?!

The questioner : I denied first, then...

The Shaykh : First you denied, and now?

The questioner : Now.

The Shaykh : Yes.

The questioner : I am determined that the influence will differ, the influence now is greater.

The Shaykh : This is not our discussion.

The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh : Our discussion was about the Arabs.

The questioner : There was influence...

The Shaykh : Do you see how you forget the discussion!! I told you, I am now going to connect you to the topic, I told you, suppose you are 'Umar ibn al-Khattab in that time! And you saw the weakness of the Arabs and their humiliation and the colonization of Persia, Rome, and Abyssinia over them? So your answer was, what kind of colonization? Only material, and it was not intellectual colonization, now, praise be to Allah, it has become clear to you that there is intellectual colonization accompanied by what? Material colonization, why did you assume earlier that there was no intellectual colonization, because in your opinion the path of change at that time was easy and now it is difficult, why? Because now there is two-fold mental colonization.

The questioner : Intellectual.

The Shaykh : There is material colonization and intellectual colonization, whereas in that time the colonization was only material and not intellectual, and this leads to the Islamic aspect, if you knew, that there is no effort of the Messenger who turned the Arabs upside down, is it not a miracle of importance, why?! Because the influence from outside was only material, it was not intellectual, while the influence or colonization of the Arabs was from both aspects: from the material aspect and from the intellectual aspect, as is the case always and forever in the Sunnah of Allah in His creation, every nation, every nation that colonizes a nation, must impose its lifestyle and its ideas and so on, and it is completely strange from you that this reality is hidden from you.

The questioner : ... .

The Shaykh : I build on this that before the coming of the Messenger (peace be upon him) and the Arabs in this state were colonized materially and intellectually, you are 'Umar ibn al-Khattab, it does not cross your mind that the Arabs might become higher than Persia and Rome and carry their account and their call spreads east and west and so on.

The questioner : Before Islam.

The Shaykh : But, I am talking before Islam, may Allah guide you, I am talking about the pre-Islamic age of ignorance, and I said, you cannot imagine that one person would put in his mind that the Arabs might, what? Return to honor and take over all these lands and so on, but what you were saying in that time, that it is impossible, became possible and became a reality.
