A man has a sum of money and wants to buy gold with it, fearing to deposit it in banks or spend it, and he would store that gold with him. Is this appropriate?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : They have money that their brother left for them. He is proposing that he buy with the money instead of putting it in the bank or something. He would buy gold with it and keep it for them, so to speak, to preserve its value.

The Shaykh: All right.

The questioner : So I do not know. And is it permissible for him to utilize it in trade or something? May Allah reward you.

The Shaykh : The better idea is the first one, that he convert this paper currency into gold coins.

The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh : And it would be a reserve for them. As for working with it, we fear that he will fall into a matter that pleases the self, either in the near term or in the long term.

The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh : Especially since I do not know what the commitment of the brother who married his deceased brother’s wife means.

The questioner : Unfortunately, he is not even committed to prayer, so to speak.

The Shaykh : So, if you have an opinion or a course of action, you should insist on the first option.
