Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : O Shaykh.

The Shaykh: Yes.

The questioner : The hadith of the renewer at the head of every hundred years.

The Shaykh : Yes.

The questioner: Its text, if you please, and its degree of authenticity, I mean.

The Shaykh :
Indeed, Allah sends for this Ummah, at the head of every hundred years, one who renews for them their religion. إنَّ الله يبعث لهذه الأمة على رأس كلِّ مئة سنة مَن يجدِّدُ لها دينها
.

The questioner : Our Shaykh, is this hadith authentic?

The Shaykh: Yes.

The questioner: Okay, is this renewer an individual, or could it be a group?

The Shaykh : They may not be a group; they may be individuals.

The questioner: Individuals.

The Shaykh: Yes, and they may be in different sciences. So there is a renewer in tafsir, a renewer in hadith, a renewer in fiqh, and in any science that benefits the Muslims, he is a renewer. And jihad in the path of Allah also needs a renewer.

The questioner: Okay, is the hundred years from the saying of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), or from his death, or from his migration?

The Shaykh: From his saying (peace be upon him), from his era.

The questioner: In Medina, this saying.

The Shaykh: Yes.

The questioner: Okay, the first renewer, I mean, who was it after the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him)?

The Shaykh: This cannot be limited, because the renewers are many, and among them is Imam Muhammad ibn Idris al-Shafi'i.
