The Ruling on Repentance with Evidence.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : It is obligatory, as Allah the Exalted said:
And turn to Allah in repentance, all of you, O believers, that you might succeed. وتوبوا إلى الله جميعا أيها المؤمنين لعلكم تفلحون
[An-Nur 24:31]
And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
O people, repent to your Lord, for I repent to Allah a hundred times a day. أيها الناس توبوا إلى ربكم فإني أتوب إلى الله في اليوم مئة مرة
Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah 34:847
He is the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to whom Allah forgave what had come before of his sin and what had come after. He repents to Allah a hundred times a day. If we were to count our repentance to Allah in a day, how much would it be? Perhaps five times, perhaps ten, perhaps it amounts to nothing at all. So it is obligatory for a person to repent to Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) by the indication of the Book and the indication of the Sunnah. How numerous are the sins upon the hearts, yet we are heedless of that. We do not return to ourselves to look at what we have done today of acts of obedience, and what we have done of evil deeds. If we have done acts of obedience, then we praise Allah, as Allah the Exalted said in the Holy Hadith:
So let him who finds good, praise Allah فمن وجد خيرا فليحمد الله
Sahih Muslim 2577a
If we have done evil deeds, then we must abandon these evil deeds so that we do not blame ourselves afterwards.
