The Shaykh’s warning about the prohibition of placing money in banks and feeding others with it.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : What makes you take this up in the main topic? One person has a little money and is looking for a place to put it because he is afraid it will be stolen. I said, and I said this while I was in London and gave some lectures there, that the Muslims living there in those lands, who are strangers, would ask a question: Is there any objection, Professor, to putting our money in the bank? No, it is not permissible; it is forbidden. You are a Muslim, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) cursed the accepter of interest and its payer, and one who records it, and the two witnesses
Sahih Muslim 1598
. Today, after the Muslims have strayed from their religion and are ignorant of the Shari'ah of their Lord, the only thing standing in their minds is that eating riba (usury or interest) is forbidden. But what about you feeding riba? That means you are the cause of feeding riba. You do not eat riba, but you are the cause of feeding riba. So the Messenger said:
May Allah curse the one who eats riba and the one who feeds it.
Al-Mustadrak lil-Hakim 15:4
, the one who feeds others, and his scribe and his witnesses. Why? Because our Lord says in the Noble Qur'an:
And cooperate in righteousness and piety, but do not cooperate in sin and aggression
[Al-Ma'idah 5:2]
. The righteous, good people today, one of them says, "I put my money in the bank; it is better than it being stolen. And I am a man who fears Allah and does not take riba." Poor man, when you put your money in the bank, the bank works with it; it eats and is fed, it eats and feeds others, so you are the cause. And perhaps we all know what the capital of the banks is? The money of the depositors. The banks do not have capital; rather, it is the group of people who deal with the banks who form the bank, who build the bank, and who establish the bank, and so on. And all of this is from the many proofs of the Muslims' ignorance of their religion and their neglect of obeying their Lord and worshipping Him, for which He created them:
And I did not create the jinn and mankind except to worship Me.
[Adh-Dhariyat 51:56]
. Therefore, our duty in this time, when the number of Muslims has reached nine hundred million or more, enslaved by the disbelievers, and less than ten million have occupied some of the sacred lands, and we are nine hundred million Muslims, but the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) has spoken the truth:
you will be numerous at that time: but you will be scum and rubbish like that carried down by a torrent
Sunan Abi Dawud 4297Sahih (Al-Albani)
. What does "ghatha'" mean? It is the light straw, the foam that comes with the flood, having no weight or value.
you will be numerous at that time: but you will be scum and rubbish like that carried down by a torrent
Sunan Abi Dawud 4297Sahih (Al-Albani)
. What is the cause? He (peace be upon him) said:
And Allah will remove awe from the hearts of your enemies, and He will cast weakness into your hearts.
, and Allah will remove awe from the hearts of your enemies. This is a special attribute of the Messenger (peace be upon him) and his Ummah. He (peace be upon him) said in some authentic hadiths:
I have been given five things by which I have been preferred over the prophets.
, among which is:
And I was given victory through terror for a month's journey.
Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah 29:7
. Before the disbelievers face the Muslims, the news reaches them and they tremble with fear. This is a karamah (a miracle granted to a righteous person) from Allah for the Prophet of Islam, Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). So he said:
I was given victory through terror for a month's journey.
Sunan al-Bayhaqi 1:939
. Among the karamah of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) is that this karamah continued in the Ummah, according to his saying (peace be upon him):
And the scholars are the heirs of the prophets.
. So the disbelievers feared the Muslims before they even left their lands to invade them. Now the situation has reversed:
and Allah will take fear of you from the breasts of your enemy and last enervation into your hearts. Someone asked: What is wahn (enervation). Messenger of Allah (ﷺ): He replied: Love of the world and dislike of death.
Sunan Abi Dawud 4297Sahih (Al-Albani)
, love of this world and hatred of death. Love of this world is what makes us overlook the prohibitions of Allah (Mighty and Majestic). You say, "This is fine, it is such and such," and this... and so on. As for the verse:
And whoever fears Allah - He will make for him a way out (3) And will provide for him from where he does not expect.
[At-Talaq 65:2-3]
, we have placed it as a signboard instead of placing it here in the hearts. What is the value of signboards? They are inanimate; they do not speak. But the Qur'an is the speech of Allah, which He made a healing for what is in the breasts. We have lifted the Qur'an from the breasts and placed it on the walls and on the lines only. And we ask Allah (Mighty and Majestic) to inspire us with guidance, to give us understanding in our religion, to teach us, and to grant us success in what He loves and is pleased with.
