Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : May Allah reward the honorableThe Shaykh : Some imams, when the iqamah is called, look at the rows and say: "Pray the prayer of one who is bidding farewell." Did this come from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said it while straightening the rows, so that it is prescribed for us to say it?

The Shaykh : It did not come from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) that he used to say to the people: "Pray the prayer of one who is bidding farewell." Rather, he used to command them to straighten their rows and establish their rows, and he clarified to them that straightening the rows is part of the completion of the prayer. As for "Pray the prayer of one who is bidding farewell," it did not come from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family). However, it came from some scholars in what they wrote that it is recommended for a person to perfect his prayer as if he is praying the prayer of one who is bidding farewell, because the one who prays the prayer of one who is bidding farewell will perfect it, since he does not know whether he will return to prayer again or not. As for the imam saying it, this is a religious innovation. We advise the imam, we counsel him, and we say: Do not say it after this day.
