All righteous deeds are a means.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : Therefore, we say that all acts of worship are a means to what? To salvation from the Fire and entry into Paradise. Allah the Exalted said:
Those whom they invoke seek means of access to their Lord, [striving as to] which of them would be nearest أولئك الذي يدعون يبتغون إلى ربهم الوسيلة أيهم أقرب
[Al-Isra 17:57]
So, if you fast Ramadan, it is said: this is a means to what? To the forgiveness of sins. Standing in prayer in Ramadan is also a means to the forgiveness of sins. Standing in prayer on the Night of Decree is a means to the forgiveness of sins. And all of this must be done with faith and the expectation of reward. So, all righteous deeds are a means. What is your purpose in your righteous deeds? My purpose is what Allah the Exalted said:
So he who is drawn away from the Fire and admitted to Paradise has attained [his desire] فمن زحزح عن النار وأدخل الجنة فقد فاز
[Ali 'Imran 3:185]
For this reason, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sought refuge from the Fire, saying:
I refuge in Allah from the Hell-Fire; woe to the inmates of the Hell-fire! أعوذ بالله من النار ويل لأهل النار
Sunan Abi Dawud 881Da'if (Al-Albani)
