What is the ruling on buying and selling stocks via a computer screen?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : The questioner says: May the Shaykh be respected, a new matter has appeared, which is investment via the screen. That is, company shares are displayed on a computer screen, so a person buys and sells in the banks via this screen at the prices he wants, because there is a list of company share prices, and it is connected to several markets. What is the ruling on buying and selling via this screen?

The Shaykh : As for that which requires possession (qabdh) for the validity of the sale, then buying and selling via this screen is not valid, because there is no possession in it. As for that which does not require possession, it needs something else, which is knowledge of the item being sold. Is the item being sold displayed on this screen and looked at? There remains another thing: the ability to deliver. If you request that what you bought be delivered to you, are you able to do so? For this reason, we see that a person should not deal in this transaction. And we do not say that it is forbidden except in what the Shari'ah dictates is forbidden, such as a sale that requires possession, or the sale of the unknown, or the sale of what one is unable to deliver; then it becomes forbidden, because Allah the Exalted said:
But Allah has permitted trade and has forbidden interest وَأَحَلَّ اللَّهُ الْبَيْعَ وَحَرَّمَ الرِّبا
[Al-Baqarah 2:275]
And in the authentic hadith of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him):
That the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade the sale involving excessive uncertainty (gharar). أن النبي عليه الصلاة والسلام نهى عن بيع الغرر
