A university student combining the midday and afternoon prayers during the midday time in his room out of fear of not being able to perform the afternoon prayer: is it permissible for him to combine them?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : He says: “My esteemed Shaykh, I am a university student. Or rather, he says: a university student who continues to combine prayers during the exams and after the exams. He prays the midday and afternoon prayers combined in his room, because it is difficult for him to get up for the afternoon prayer. What is your opinion on this combining?”

The Shaykh : My opinion on this combining is that it is forbidden. If he had work that he would not sleep through, how could he sleep through the midday prayer? It is obligatory for him to pray the midday prayer in its time and the afternoon prayer in its time. If we were to give people a leniency and say, “Whoever is sleepy may sleep and combine,” much evil would result for some people. So we say to this student: Pray the midday prayer in its time and the afternoon prayer in its time, and leave your laziness.
