What is the ruling on a man who travels and wipes over his leather socks, then stays, or a resident who wipes and then travels? How long is the duration of his wiping?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : He says: May the Shaykh explain to me with examples regarding wiping over the leather socks. If a traveler wipes and then stays, or a resident wipes and then travels, what is the ruling? Because there is much confusion in this matter.

The Shaykh : As for the one who wipes and then travels, he completes the wiping of a traveler. For example, a man wipes for a full day, and before the duration of wiping is completed, he travels. In this case, he has two days remaining in which to wipe. As for the one who wipes while traveling and then stays, he completes the wiping of a resident. Accordingly, if he arrives in the town and a day and a night have passed, what does he do? He must remove the socks and perform a complete ablution. So, is the criterion the beginning or the end? Yes, the criterion is the end. But if he wipes while a resident and the duration is completed, it is known that he must remove them and put on new ones.

The questioner :- These are requests - He says: We are the youth of Jeddah, and we invite you to give a lecture there, so do not withhold from us. And another says: We are in ... and we ask the honorable Shaykh to deliver a lecture for us, and may Allah reward us with the best reward.

The Shaykh : I would actually like to respond to all the requests that come to me, but I am busy, very busy, and unable to do so. Otherwise, it is known that meeting with the brothers is good, and for a person to know [someone] by seeing them is better than knowing them by mention. But I complain to Allah; the tasks are many, and I am unable to respond to everyone. It is not good for me to respond to some and leave others. Even if I responded to some, it would also disrupt my work. So we ask Allah for success for our brothers, and we thank them for this invitation. Then, Allah the Exalted has made things easy, and praise be to Allah. Now, if a person does not attend in person, he attends by his voice in the recordings. In some mosques now, they give lessons from tapes. They place the tape at the microphone, and he speaks, and the people listen, in some of the mosques.

The questioner : May Allah reward our Shaykh and our father with the best reward, and benefit us all with his knowledge, and guide his steps, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon His servant and Messenger Muhammad.
