The questioner : The honorable Shaykh says: I am a young man who leans more toward commitment than deviation. I often call upon my Lord to inspire me with guidance. I strive to keep the company of the righteous. However, I often criticize some of the deeds of the people of good, and I leave the gathering with my mind preoccupied by it. Am I sinful for this, for this criticism? Is this self-admiration? And what is the danger of self-admiration?

The Shaykh : As for if the deeds of the people of good that you dislike are acts of obedience, then this is a mistake on your part. It is a mistake for a person to dislike the obedience of Allah the Mighty and Majestic among the deeds of the people of good. This may be very serious, because Allah the Exalted says:
That is because they disliked what Allah revealed, so He rendered worthless their deeds. ذَلِكَ بِأَنَّهُمْ كَرِهُوا مَا أَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ فَأَحْبَطَ أَعْمَالَهُمْ
[Muhammad 47:9]
. As for if he dislikes among the good deeds what some of the people of good do, such as backbiting, lying, and mockery, then this is good. That he dislikes this evil is good. May Allah reward him with good. But he must advise them and warn them of Allah the Mighty and Majestic. If they reform, it is for him and for them. If they do not reform and remain as they are, he should stand up and leave them.
Last question.
