The questioner : May Allah reward the honorableThe Shaykh : May Allah reward you. On a Friday, a group of people prayed in a secluded part of the mosque. When the imam finished the first rak'ah with them, the electricity went out, and they could not hear the imam. So one of the worshippers stepped forward to complete the prayer with them. What is the ruling in this case?

The Shaykh : It is valid; this is valid. As long as they caught up with the imam for one rak'ah, they should complete the prayer with one rak'ah. And if one of them steps forward to lead them, there is no blame on them. This is good. But if they did not catch up with the imam for one rak'ah, then we say: you must go out and pray with the imam, even on the sidewalks or in the road, or you should have a person who hears the imam's takbir and conveys it to you, meaning he relays it to you. Because in this case, they cannot complete the Jumu'ah prayer, since they did not catch up with the imam for one rak'ah. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Whoever catches a raka of the prayer has caught the prayer. من أدرك ركعة من الصلاة فقد أدرك الصلاة
Muwatta Malik 1:15
. If it is not possible for them to complete the Jumu'ah prayer, they must strive to join the Jumu'ah with the imam. Yes.
