The questioner : In some Islamic countries, Islamic history is taught in an incorrect manner, which leads to hatred of some of the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them). We request clarification, especially regarding the stance in some battles. We ask for your guidance?

The Shaykh : What the questioner said is correct. Indeed, history is actually distorted and falsified according to the state; unfortunately, it is subject to the state, which directs it wherever it wants, and it is also subject to certain ideas that dare to lie and find it acceptable regarding what they call for and aim for. Therefore, we see in many history books distorted matters, whether they are true or often forged and false, especially regarding what occurred between the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them), in which they are excused because they were exercising independent legal reasoning. So whoever among them was correct has two rewards, and whoever erred has one reward and his error is forgiven. It is obligatory for a person to beware of such forged or distorted books, whether by addition or subtraction, especially if one feels that such a book, for example, disparages the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) by distorting their lives and their gatherings. Because disparaging the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) is not only disparaging the Companions themselves, but it is disparaging them, and disparaging the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and disparaging the Shari'ah, and disparaging Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He). Because if there is disparagement of the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them), that is disparagement of the Shari'ah, because they are the means of transmission; they are the ones who transmitted it to us. If they are a place of disparagement and fault, how can we trust the Shari'ah that is before us, which came to us through them? And if the disparagement of the Companions becomes disparagement of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), because they are his companions, his beloved ones, and they supported him against his enemies. Disparaging the companion is disparaging the one accompanied. And if the disparagement of the Companions becomes disparagement of Allah (Mighty and Majestic), how can it be said that Allah the Exalted chose for His Prophet, who is the best of His creation, such companions who are a place of disparagement, cursing, and fault? Thus, disparaging the Companions is disparaging Allah, His Messenger, and His Shari'ah. This is a great matter. History books may include some of this matter, which indicates disparagement of the Companions, either explicitly or by hint. So let the believer beware of such histories that mislead him from the good path. And Allah is the One to be sought for help.
