The questioner : From Baghdad, Iraq, Mahmoud Ahmad asks about this hadith and its meaning, which states: “The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade a man from wearing a saffron-dyed garment.” What is a saffron-dyed garment?

The Shaykh : A saffron-dyed garment is a garment dyed with saffron. Saffron is a fragrant plant; in fact, it is well known as a fragrance, and its color is red. Therefore, a man is forbidden from wearing a pure red garment that contains no other color. This prohibition is either a prohibition of disapproval or a prohibition of strict prohibition.
However, if the red color is accompanied by another color, such as if it is striped with red and white stripes, for example, or red and black stripes, then there is nothing wrong with it. Yes.

The questioner : Thank you, O honorable Shaykh, and may Allah bless you for what you have clarified for us and for the honorable listening brothers.
Our noble brothers, the honorable Shaykh Muhammad ibn Salih al-Uthaymeen, professor at the College of Sharia and Principles of Religion in Qassim, and preacher and imam of the Grand Mosque in Unaizah, has answered your questions.
May Allah reward him for his effort. This session has ended. We will meet you tomorrow, by His power and strength. Peace from Allah be upon you, and His mercy and blessings.
