The Shaykh : ... to study psychology. When he mixed with the professors there, who were supposed to supervise him in his study of psychology, he found that they had a fierce campaign against the Sunnah and hadith. The man became enthusiastic and changed his intention, so he began studying hadith instead of psychology. I have a friend in Damascus named Khalid al-Jazairi, a friend of mine and his, so he wrote me a long letter about how he had changed his course of study and was now studying hadith. Of course, many problems from these Orientalists pass before me, and I know thatThe Shaykh : First: he is busy with his profession, because he had a shop there. Second: with knowledge, his time is precious and limited. Therefore, I write you the questions in the letter to Khalid, and you go toThe Shaykh : his shop and read the questions to him, and he answers you. You record the summary and then send me the detailed written response, and that is how it was. I remember once he sent more than twenty questions. The point is, the man graduated and obtained a degree in hadith from where? From London. Based on this degree, he was employed as a teacher of the hadith subject at the Syrian University here in Damascus. So he would mention to his students, as one of the hardships of the world and its misfortunes: that I am studying hadith at the Syrian University, and the Shaykh of hadith here works in his shop for his livelihood. That is, a psychological state, a satisfied psychological state of scholars, and so on, which you rarely see in such doctors. The point is, I remember that I benefited from this benefit and actually tried it, and I advise it. When a thought occurs to me that confuses me, he advised me. He said to me: Let the subconscious mind do its work. Do not rush to write down one of the two perspectives. Rather, let the subconscious mind do its work. Sleep and wake up in the morning, and you will find that your opinion has shifted from one side to the other, and there is good in that. And I, glory be to Allah, have always tried this, so I advise this.
