Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : Shaykh, there is a war in the south of Sudan between the government and the Christian Popular Movement. The government has declared that it is jihad. What is your opinion so that we can convey it to our brothers?

The Shaykh : What is my opinion about what?

The questioner : About this war in the south.

The Shaykh : From which aspect do you mean? What is my opinion? Does any Muslim say: It is permissible to remain silent about the Christians if they rebel against the Muslims?

The questioner : If they rebel against the Muslims?

The Shaykh: Ah.

The questioner : The government has declared, meaning, that this south is part of Sudan.

The Shaykh : I am not interested in the details, may Allah guide you. I am not interested in the details. You are asking me about something strange.

The questioner : I am afraid of nationalism and the destruction of Islam.

The Shaykh : You are afraid of nationalism, but you are not afraid of Christianity?

The questioner : I am afraid of Christianity.

The Shaykh : Then what should be the position of the state toward Christianity that rebels against the state, whatever the state’s status may be?!

The questioner : By Allah, the state, of course, must fulfill its obligation. But the issue is with us, as Salafis, meaning, how will our jihad be?

The Shaykh : The time for your jihad has not yet come, O you Salafis.

The questioner : Oh?

The Shaykh : The time for your jihad has not come.

The questioner : Meaning, we do not fight with them, or how?

The Shaykh : Do not fight with them, because the Christians are aggressors. So if a Christian comes to you wanting to take your money, what do you do?

The questioner : We kill him.

The Shaykh : Likewise, if the Christians come wanting to occupy your land, you do not say: nationalism, or they do not rule by what Allah has revealed, or the like. Rather, you must defend your land, your honor, your wealth, and your country. After that, every person will be gathered with his intention.

The questioner : Yes.
