Is it permissible to kiss the hand of one's mother and father by analogy to kissing the hand of a scholar, if kissing the scholar's hand is for the purpose of honoring and revering him?!

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : My point is: Why don't we kiss the hand of the mother, and she is?

The Shaykh : Because...

The questioner: Greater than!

The Shaykh: Because of two things: The first thing: The operative cause that you were going on and on about.

The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh: You are now escaping from it, whether you like it or not.

The questioner : Which one?

The Shaykh: Is this clear?

The questioner : Which one?

The Shaykh: Reverence for knowledge!

The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh: Yes, here there is no knowledge.

The questioner: But the status of the parents is great.

The Shaykh: One, one, here there is no knowledge.

The questioner: All right.

The Shaykh: You are now saying: The status of the mother is great, am I disagreeing with you on this?

The questioner : No, you do not disagree.

The Shaykh: So then?! Why do you bring up a new operative cause that requires discussion?! The operative cause around which you turned your argument, and in which I opposed you, fearing you would reach this conclusion, because you took the reasoning by restricting the operative cause to reverence and respect. So I knew from afar that you wanted to apply this operative cause to the mother, whereas the discussion that took place between me and you was: It is not reverence for the elder, but reverence for the scholar. This is one point, perhaps it has become clear?

The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh: The other point: We would not have said that kissing the hand of a scholar is permissible, were it not that the Salaf did so.

The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh: Because it is from our methodology and our way to follow the righteous Salaf, unlike many people who want to take rulings from the Book and the Sunnah based on their own understanding, without presenting that understanding to what the righteous Salaf were upon. Do you agree with me on this methodology?

The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh: Okay, now we say: Were it not that the Salaf kissed the hand of the scholar, we would have restricted the kissing to the Messenger of Allah and said: This is a matter that has no connection to those who came after the Messenger of Allah, because the Salaf did not do this among themselves.

The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh: So now you know the second argument: It is not reported that the Salaf used to honor their father or mother by kissing the hand. This invalidates your reasoning from both sides: The first side: The operative cause is knowledge, and here there is no knowledge. The other side: Following, and here there is no following. So the objection is dropped, or at least the correction is accepted, okay?

The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh: All right, if Allah wills.

The questioner: Yes, okay.

The Shaykh: And it is finished.
