What is the authenticity of the athar of Ibn Mas'ud in which he rebuked the people who formed circles in the mosque, with someone among them teaching them dhikr?

The questioner: All right, no harm in having kept you a bit!

The Shaykh : Please, go ahead!

The questioner: I want to ask you about the chain of narration of a hadith I heard.

The Shaykh : Yes.

The questioner: It’s just that I don’t remember its exact wording!

The Shaykh : Please, go ahead!

The questioner: But the beginning is that it’s as if someone went to the mosque and found them saying, and there was one in the middle as if they were in a circle, and they were saying: "There is no god but Allah," and behind him: "There is no god but Allah" a hundred times, and "Glory be to Allah" and "Praise be to Allah" and the like. So I’m telling you, he went and rebuked this practice in the hadith!

The Shaykh : Yes.

The questioner: Can I find out where to find it, and whether it is authentic or how it is?!

The Shaykh: First of all, my brother: this is not called a hadith.

The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh: Rather, it is an athar!

The questioner: An athar, yes.

The Shaykh: Yes, and this athar is an authentic athar.

The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh: And it is established from 'Abdullah ibn Mas'ud.

The questioner: From 'Abdullah ibn Mas'ud.

The Shaykh: And thirdly: perhaps it is the last one!

The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh: You will find it in the book "Sunan al-Darimi" at the beginning of the book.

The questioner: "Sunan al-Darimi"?!

The Shaykh: Yes.

The questioner : May Allah reward you with good, O Shaykh.

The Shaykh : May Allah preserve you.

The questioner: Peace be upon you.

The Shaykh : And upon you be peace and Allah's mercy and blessings. Welcome.

The questioner : You are welcome.

The Shaykh: How is the uncle doing?
