A word by the Shaykh regarding the verses of divorce.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : As for the second matter, or the second set of verses, they are the verses of divorce.
Allah the Exalted said in them:
O Prophet, when you [Muslims] divorce women, divorce them for [the commencement of] their waiting period
[At-Talaq 65:1]
.
when you divorce إذا طلقتم
The address is to the group.
Is the call to one person or to a group?
To one person.
So how is it that the call is to one person, while the address directed to the one called is to a group?
Because the address directed to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) is an address to him and to his Ummah with him. And because this is to make clear the great importance of divorce, that Allah addressed the leader of the Ummah, who is our Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), with the rulings of divorce, to indicate that the rulings of divorce are very important. For this reason, the leader of the Ummah was called out to with them:
O Prophet, when you [Muslims] divorce women, divorce them for [the commencement of] their waiting period
[At-Talaq 65:1]
