A man in a coma living on medical machines, and the doctors say there is no hope for his cure and that if they remove the machines from him

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner: Brain death.

The Shaykh : ... .

The questioner: Ah, and his brain, from the medical point of view, is now in resuscitation, dead. They say his brain is finished, it has ended, but he is breathing and moving his eye, and he is in a coma, and the blood pressure and everything is going, meaning yesterday, some doctors gave advice to his family to take him out of the hospital because this man is finished, of no use, meaning from the medical point of view there is no hope, so I do not know what your opinion is?

The Shaykh: There are no details other than this.

The questioner : No, but...

The Shaykh: First, you put him in the hospital, what does the hospital do for him?

The questioner: Absolutely, they have the machines on him.

The Shaykh: Yes, there are machines.

The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh: The machines are what move his body.

The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh: And they move his heart, so if the machines are removed, it means he died.

The questioner: He will die, yes.

The Shaykh: That is it, I am saying, I am saying the doctors.

The questioner: Meaning that.

The Shaykh: They take him to the house, yes, meaning it means that the doctors say this will certainly die, not between one night and the next, after the machines are disconnected.

The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh: Yes, that is the opinion.

The questioner: From which perspective, Shaykh, may Allah honor you, do you say this opinion?

The Shaykh: Yes.

The questioner: I say from which perspective do you say this.

The Shaykh: From several perspectives. First, that these machines, in the opinion of the doctors themselves, do not benefit them and do not cure him. So the Messenger (peace be upon him), as we always and forever mention, says:
Seventy thousand from my Ummah will enter Paradise without reckoning or punishment يدخل الجنة سبعون ألف من أمَّتي بلا حساب وعذاب
to the end
They are those who do not use charms nor cauterise themselves nor seek omens and who rely on their Lord. الذين لا يسترقون ، ولا يكتوون ، ولا يتطيَّرون ، وعلى ربِّهم يتوكَّلون
Al-Adab Al-Mufrad 911
, it is even more so that they do not use these machines which are certain to those who use them that they do not fatten and do not satisfy hunger.

The questioner : Very good.

The Shaykh: Second: Without a doubt, as I hear and I think that what I am hearing is correct, but it is not necessary that it is correct, that these people take in the hospital expensive costs.
The student: This is a reality.
Another student : They take one hundred and twenty dinars for the night.

The Shaykh: So this is a waste of money for what? For the sake that his family enjoys seeing him moving his eyelids, like we say in our language, what is in this? So from this, we and that, we say as the doctors said.

The questioner : May Allah reward you with good, Shaykh.

Another questioner: Our Shaykh, Shaykh Ahmad, I mean, I say that these machines, if placed on a dead person, meaning, would he move?

The Shaykh: He does not move.
The student: Yes, he said, so as long as he does not move, then there is something in this man, meaning it is not in these machines themselves.

The Shaykh: Well, what is present in this man?

The questioner: The soul, he said, and the spirit... that we keep him.

The Shaykh: We keep his spirit, this is not the issue, meaning the matter is completely different between if the issue is that it is said we kill him or we leave him alive.
The student : Yes.

The Shaykh: We will say no, it is not permissible to kill him, the issue now is not like this, so that what Shaykh ... brought up is answered. The issue is whether we incur this cost of medicines for him or not? The answer is no. If he lives, if he lives as he lives in resuscitation, then we are not causing his death, and if he dies, it is his term.
The student: They, our Shaykh, meaning the doctors, meaning the benefit of these machines, they say that for example, it is better than the house, only from that aspect, otherwise it is the same thing, meaning that if the sugar rises, they see it in the machines and they lower it, and if the pressure rises, they lower it, they inject water, they give him a diuretic.

The Shaykh: This is not a fundamental matter, we ask the doctors, it rises and falls and rises and falls, and then what is your opinion.

The questioner: There is no, they have no, there is no benefit.

The Shaykh: That is it, there is no benefit, so why this cost and spending and using these medicines that do not benefit? Meaning, a living person with his mind and his leg, it is not befitting for him to use a medicine that he is convinced has no benefit.

The questioner : May Allah reward you with good, O Shaykh.

The Shaykh: I think, because I am far from the time, when a sacrifice is slaughtered and its blood flows, you find from the trembling of its body, even in its eyes, have you seen anything of that?
The student : ... .
Another student : The Shaykh specified the eyes.
The student: Ah, the eyes.

The Shaykh: Yes, the eyelids move, as for the movement of the body.
The student: And this is coming.

The Shaykh: And after what, the end of the flow of blood.
The student: Yes, sometimes it sits for minutes.

The Shaykh: Yes, this brings the matter close... the doctors.
The student: That it is as if these last breaths are sitting... .
