Fatwa number ( 20437 )
Q: My brothers and I have been trading in devices: televisions, indoor and outdoor antennas (Antene), and capacitors. We have never traded in satellite dishes. We have built up a small fortune, and I pay them my salary every month (I am a natural sciences professor). I then came across your fatwa regarding the television. My question now is: What is the ruling of the wise Lawgiver regarding the cash I obtained before I came across the fatwa? And what is the ruling of the wise Lawgiver regarding the money that is still in the form of televisions and antennas?
A: It is obligatory for you to dispose of the trade in what is forbidden or a means to it, and you must stay away from assisting in sin and falsehood. Whoever gives up something for the sake of Allah, Allah will replace it with something better. As for the money obtained from your previous trade, we hope there is no blame on you for it due to your lack of knowledge; as Allah the Exalted said:[Al-Baqarah 2:275] the verse. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.

But Allah has permitted trade and has forbidden interest. So whoever has received an admonition from his Lord and desists may have what is past, and his affair rests with Allah
