Is a person rewarded for performing the customs of habit?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : The customs of habit, if a person performs them; the customs of habit, if a person performs them; is he rewarded for doing them?

The Shaykh : He would have contradicted the one who established the custom.

The questioner : For example, something the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) did.

The Shaykh : Before the example; did you understand al-Albani's words? He is a non-Arab, it is your right to... Who is the one who established the custom?

The questioner : The Messenger.

The Shaykh : Good; so you must ask: What is the way in which the one who did what the one who established the custom did contradicts the one who established the custom? The way is his saying (peace be upon him):
The reward of deeds depends upon the intentions and every person will get the reward according to what he has intended. إنما الأعمال بالنيات ، وإنما لكل امرئ ما نوى
Sahih al-Bukhari 1
, so if the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) did an act with the intention of worship, and one of us did it with an intention other than worship, did he follow the Messenger or contradict the Messenger?

The questioner : He contradicted him.

The Shaykh : Good; and if he did the opposite of that, doing an act not with the intention of worship but with the intention of habit, nature, disposition... among matters that do not relate to worship; if the doer did it intending worship; did he agree with the one who established the custom or contradict him?

The questioner : He contradicted him.

The Shaykh : May Allah bless you; this is what I intended.
Is it clear?
