What is the ruling on a woman placing her clothes in a place other than her husband's house? And what are the limits of a woman's awrah (the part of the body that must be covered) in front of Muslim women or disbelieving women?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : A question is asked—and of course, this question has been asked before, but... it is directed to women:
Whichever woman أيُّما امرأةٍ
—the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Any woman who takes off her clothes anywhere but in her husband's house, has torn the screen between her and Allah. أيما امرأة خلعت ثيابها في غير بيت زوجها ؛ فقد هتكت ستر الله
Sunan Ibn Majah 3750Hasan (Darussalam)
. Please explain this hadith? What is it, and what are the limits of a woman's awrah (the part of the body that must be covered) in front of Muslim women and disbelieving women?

The Shaykh : First: The hadith is intended to mean placing her clothes; that is, entering the bathhouse; undressing to enter the bathhouse. The bathhouse is not in her home, naturally, but in the home of some neighbor or relative who is not a mahram (a relative one may not marry). This is the woman to whom this warning was addressed. As for removing her khimar (the head covering) in front of her Muslim sisters, that is not what is intended by this hadith. So, "placing the clothes" here is absolute; meaning, all the clothes. It is an euphemism for a woman undressing to enter the bathhouse. What indicates this meaning is that the one who narrated the hadith from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) is the Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) when some women visited her. She asked them from which land they were. They said: From Homs. She said: Is this the town whose women enter the bathhouse? Then she mentioned this hadith from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
If a woman removes her clothes in a place other than her husband's house or her people's house; she has torn the veil between her and her Lord إن المرأة إذا وضعت ثيابَها في غير بيت زوجها أو أهلها ؛ فقد هتكت السِّتر الذي بينها وبين ربِّها
.
As for the awrah (the part of the body that must be covered) of a Muslim woman in relation to her Muslim sister, it is that her entire body is awrah (the part of the body that must be covered) except for the head, the forearms, the feet, and what is above the ankles where the anklets are worn. And other than that, it is not permissible for a woman to expose any part of her body, even if it is from her leg or her upper arm; let alone other parts that were not places of adornment in the time of the revelation of His saying (Glorified and Exalted is He):
not expose their adornment except to their husbands ولا يبدين زينتهنَّ إلا لبعولتهنَّ
[An-Nur 24:31]
, the verse in its entirety until He said (Glorified and Exalted is He) at its end:
or their women أو نسائهنَّ
. So, the places that were not places of adornment in the time of the revelation of this verse are part of the awrah (the part of the body that must be covered) that it is not permissible for a Muslim woman to display; let alone that it is not permissible for her to display herself in front of a disbelieving woman except as she displays herself in front of a non-mahram (a relative one may not marry) man. This is the limit of the awrah (the part of the body that must be covered) of a Muslim woman in relation to a Muslim woman. From this, you know the corruption that is widespread in this time, even among many committed women; where they expose their arms, and they may be wearing shirts that do not cover the upper arms, or short shirts that do not cover the legs. All of this is negligence and lack of concern for the rulings of the Qur'an.
