What is the ruling on taking from the beard less than a handful?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : We come to a final question.

The Shaykh : Good.

The questioner : It is about taking from it now, less than a handful?

Another questioner : ... May Allah distinguish our brother Abu Faisal between the truth and falsehood.

The Shaykh : Less than a handful?

The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh : All right; first, if you open the door to taking less than a handful, you will open a door that you have no power to close; because someone from Damascus or Syria will bring you an example and say to you: What do you say about the common saying in Syria: "The best of beards is the one that is a sign"? Is this permissible? You have no power to refute this... if you say it is permissible?

The questioner : No, it is not permissible.

The Shaykh : I know, all right; "The best of beards is the one that is a sign," this sign is realized with half a centimeter or is it not realized?

The questioner : It is realized.

The Shaykh : All right; what do you think of the one who lengthened it by another half centimeter, is it permissible? And so the questions will repeat upon you until you stop at the limit that the Lawgiver has set for you; this is first. This is called a dialectical method to silence a person and convince him by his own method, but we do not have anything else now, if these reports were not in your hands now; could you take from the beard?

The questioner: No.

The Shaykh : Ah, why?

The questioner : Because the hadiths came...

The Shaykh : Absolute.

The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh : So the absolute is carried out in its absoluteness unless a restriction comes to restrict it; correct?

The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh : All right; if a restriction comes to restrict it, can you exceed it?

The questioner: No.

The Shaykh : So you have taken the answer, and may Allah bless you.
Abu Malik: I mean he needs to ask: What is the restriction?

The questioner : The restriction is known, but...
Abu Malik: It is for the sake of clarification, I mean.

The Shaykh : May Allah reward you with good.
