What is the ruling on throwing food leftovers in the trash after collecting them in bags?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : These food leftovers are thrown in special bags for trash, meaning they are thrown with any trash, and it is a blessing, so what is your opinion on that?

The Shaykh : Do you mean that it is collected with the filth?

The questioner : With all the house trash in a special bag, all the trash in the house—even if it is from food, which is the blessing—is placed all together in one bag, placed at the door of the house, and then taken to other places by the municipality!

The Shaykh : So the issue, in this form, since this blessing is thrown away, remains a formal matter regarding its respect by placing it in special bags. Since its destination is the trash, the issue remains purely formal; because if some of the household members are cautious and put the filth in one bag and this blessing in another, but after that... it is one destination. Therefore, we must emphasize that if we cook food for the household, we should not make more than what they need, and if we cook food for guests, we should not make more than what we estimate. There is no objection to being cautious, but what caution... caution so that, for example, the host is able to fulfill his duty and the hospitality that our Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) encouraged him to, as in his saying:
Whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day, then let him honor his guest. مَن كان يؤمن بالله واليوم الآخر فَلْيكرِمْ ضيفَه
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2500Sahih (Darussalam)
, but the hospitality of the guest should not be in this manner that we see.
I, for example, in Qatar, was invited to several invitations from good people who appear to be wealthy, meaning deadly formalities in my opinion. What do you call this display? We call it trays, a very large tray, so three or four trays, on every tray a slaughtered animal, and the tray that is atThe Shaykh : the frontThe Shaykh : has two slaughtered animals, and some have three slaughtered animals, and Allah is witness that if they gathered at this table, a quarter of a slaughtered animal would suffice them, not a whole one, a quarter!! Meaning, no matter what is said, no matter how well one thinks of these honorable people that they distribute it, but this is said in Syria, for example, in Egypt it is possible that this, by Allah, finds poor people, but I see here—ma sha Allah!—the people of the country have no poor person, and therefore sometimes some of the brothers charge us to spend zakah from here to Syria or to other countries; so this issue must be attended to and we must avoid formalities and the love of showing off that, by Allah, we honored such-and-such a prince and slaughtered for him such-and-such a number of animals, and we honoredThe Shaykh : such-and-such a person and slaughtered for him such-and-such a number of animals; because all of this is in the path of Satan, not in the path of the Most Merciful at all; therefore, I hope, considering that Allah (Mighty and Majestic) has blessed us and guided us to act according to the Book and the Sunnah, that we should expand the circle of acting according to the Book and the Sunnah, especially in the points where the general people are in it or are unaware of it.

The questioner : Shaykh, there is a question... the story that is happening... between Mu'awiyah ibn Abi Sufyan or 'Umar ibn al-Khattab when he disapproved... of Mu'awiyah's excessive display, so Mu'awiyah said to him: I do this to face the Western rulers. So 'Umar said to him: I do not disapprove of you and I do not agree with you, meaning, I do not agree with you and...

The Shaykh : Yes, this is correct, but this has no connection to what we are discussing—may Allah bless you—at all; because he is speaking about Mu'awiyah, who was the one speaking with Mu'awiyah? He was the Commander of the Faithful, and his garment was patched, and if he saw on Mu'awiyah a sound garment, not patched, he would consider this a type of what?

Another questioner : Excess.

The Shaykh : As for if 'Umar ibn al-Khattab saw Mu'awiyah or others in such excess that sends money to the ground like this, do not ever imagine that Mu'awiyah would approve of it, this is from one side, and from another side, Mu'awiyah mentioned an excuse for it, but what is our excuse before the Europeans who have weakened us? No, on the contrary, we now want to show them strength, we want to show them what some of the Muslim commanders showed when they entered upon the King of Persia and they placed the short gate in front of him so that he is forced to what? To bow to him in respect, and when he turned his back to him; so this is the strength that we need to show before these luxurious, comfortable people, and not to be swept away with them in their excess to the Hellfire, and Allah is the Helper.
