The questioner: Our Shaykh, Abu Bakr al-Jaza'iri - may Allah reward him with good - in the Holy City of Madinah was asked in our presence about placing the hands on the chest after standing up from bowing? He said: It is not from the Sunnah, the Messenger of Allah did not raise [his hands].

The Shaykh: Yes, may Allah reward him with good.

Another questioner: He used to do it, our Shaykh.

The Shaykh : Yes?

Another questioner: He used to do it.

The questioner: He used to do it?

Another questioner: I was there, it was in front of me.

The questioner: He was asked in front of me? He said: There is no time to place your hands.

The Shaykh: It is possible to reconcile the two statements, and the responsibility lies with the narrator; you are number one and he is number two, as for me, I have no connection to it. As for reconciling the two opinions, or between the fatwa and the practice; the fatwa is his opinion and his independent legal reasoning, and the practice is obedience to the one in authority.
