The Saruriyyah: Are they truly a sect, and who are their scholars?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : The Saruriyyah: Are they truly a sect, and who are their scholars?

The Shaykh : May Allah guide you. What do you know about the Saruriyyah?

The questioner : We have heard very contradictory reports, and therefore we seek your ruling on this matter.

The Shaykh : So do not ask until the truth becomes clear to you. I know nothing about the Saruriyyah except that they are attributed to a man named Muhammad Sarur al-Zayn al-Abidin, but he has no reports indicating his methodology or his plan. He has a magazine he called "al-Sunnah," which contains nothing of the Sunnah except what is rare and scarce; in fact, it is a political magazine. As for his methodology and what his call is, that is not apparent. I am not concerned with paying attention to what is said about Zayd, Bakr, or 'Amr, because as it was said, "The defect in news lies only in its narrators." When it becomes clear to you what the call of the Saruriyyah is, then ask about that from one side. And from another side, do not ask about individuals; ask about what pertains to Islamic jurisprudence.

The questioner : But regarding their methodologies, Salman al-'Udah and his like.

The Shaykh : Peace be upon you.

The questioner : And upon you be peace and the mercy of Allah.

The Shaykh : You have now taken all your glory in asking questions. I tell you, ask about what concerns you. As for you, and Salman, and Sulayman, and Safer al-Hawali, and so on, there is a fitnah (trial, discord or temptation) established in the Saudi lands, unfortunately. We hope that it will be put to an end soon, because we do not know what is driving this fitnah. You should stay away from it and ask about what concerns you regarding the purified and selected Islamic jurisprudence from the Book of Allah and the authentic Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). May Allah protect you.

The questioner : And upon you be peace, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings.
