What is the ruling on one who is asked to take an oath on something, and he swears by it outwardly on the Qur'an, but he intends something else in his heart?

The Shaykh: Yes.

The questioner : Hello.

The Shaykh: Yes.

The questioner : Peace be upon you.

The Shaykh: And upon you peace.

The questioner : No problem, a question, O Shaykh, for the sake of Allah.

The Shaykh: Go ahead.

The questioner : Now, I want to know if a person is forced, for example, once to swear on the Qur'an, is this shirk (associating partners with Allah) with Allah?

The Shaykh: Swearing on the Qur'an.

The questioner : Yes, but he concealed his intention, and he was saying to himself something else, meaning.

The Shaykh: What do you mean by something else?

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh: What do you mean by something else? This question is different from your first question. Why did you change your question?

The questioner : No, no, I mean, for example, we know that if he is forced to swear, yes, and he is holding the Qur'an, but between him and himself he is saying, "By Allah, I did not go." In front of them he said, "By Allah, I did not go," but between him and himself he said, for example, at such-and-such a time, meaning at a different time than the one they think, so that it would not be like that, meaning that it would be a lie, which is haram (forbidden), like that, or how?

The Shaykh: Of course, it is haram (forbidden).

The questioner : Would it be shirk (associating partners with Allah)?

The Shaykh: No, it would be haram (forbidden), it is not sufficient.

The questioner : Of course, it is sufficient, but I mean, it is not shirk (associating partners with Allah).

The Shaykh : It is forbidden.

The questioner : Okay, so if he repents, it would not be shirk (associating partners with Allah) with Allah?

The Shaykh : What did he say?

The questioner : If he repents, is his repentance accepted, and it would not be shirk (associating partners with Allah) with Allah?

The Shaykh: Does the one who commits shirk (associating partners with Allah), if he repents, not know that Allah accepts his repentance?

The questioner : I mean, even the one who commits shirk (associating partners with Allah) with Allah, if he repents, does Allah accept his repentance?

The Shaykh: Do you not read the Qur'an?

The questioner : I read, meaning that all sins, our Lord repents of them, except shirk (associating partners with Allah) with Allah.

The Shaykh: May Allah guide you
(68) And those who do not invoke with Allah another deity or kill the soul which Allah has forbidden [to be killed], except by right, and do not commit unlawful sexual intercourse. And whoever should do that will meet a penalty. (69) Multiplied for him is the punishment on the Day of Resurrection, and he will abide therein humiliated - (70) Except for those who repent, believe and do righteous work. For them Allah will replace their evil deeds with good. And ever is Allah Forgiving and Merciful.
[Al-Furqan 25:68-70]
.

The questioner : I mean, even what I did, is it possible that our Lord will accept my repentance?

The Shaykh: Cover up your own state. What did you do? I do not know.

The questioner : I mean, this is what I told you, I am like this, meaning, will our Lord accept my repentance if I repent with a sincere repentance?

The Shaykh: Whoever sins and repents to Allah with a sincere repentance, Allah accepts repentance from His servants and forgives much.

The questioner : Because sometimes I say this is permissible, is there shirk (associating partners with Allah) in it, is it possible that our Lord will not accept my repentance?

The Shaykh: No, for every sin, if a person repents from it, Allah accepts his repentance.

The questioner : I mean, it is not shirk (associating partners with Allah).
