The questioner : The mockery of the religion mentioned in the saying of Blessed and Exalted is He
(65) And if you ask them, they will surely say, "We were only conversing and playing." Say, "Is it Allah and His verses and His Messenger that you were mocking?" (66) Make no excuse; you have disbelieved after your belief. If We pardon one faction of you - We will punish another faction because they were criminals. قل أ بالله وآياته ورسوله كنتم تستهزؤون لا تتعتذروا قد كفرتم بعد إيمانكم
[At-Tawbah 9:65-66]
The question is: Is the disbelief here doctrinal or practical?

The Shaykh : There is no doubt that the disbelief is doctrinal. In fact, this type of disbelief has two horns, because the mockery of the verses of Allah Mighty and Majestic ... may come from a believer, no matter how weak his faith is. This type of disbelief is what falls under our previous discussion when we said that it is not permissible to declare a Muslim a disbeliever unless something appears from his tongue that indicates to us that he ... is from his heart. Here, his mockery of the verses of Allah Mighty and Majestic is the greatest admission from him that he does not believe in what he mocked. Therefore, he is a disbeliever with doctrinal disbelief.

The questioner : This type ... is of the hypocrites

The Shaykh : Yes, indeed.
