The Shaykh’s account of an incident that occurred with an enthusiastic young man who had excessive jealousy.

The questioner : This is a question that must be asked, in order to reassure many of the brothers and to close the door on rumors. We ask the Shaykh about the many rumors and talk regarding the incident that took place on Friday night in this mosque. What is the story of that man? Is it true? Did he have an intention? What are the details of the matter? The brothers must take this up and clarify it.

The Shaykh : What happened is not as we hear about it. What happened was a simple matter. It was a man, or a young man, who had some jealousy and was upset about some things he saw in the country. He came here in order to advise me to contact the authorities to remove some of the evil. Yes, that is what he said. Nothing ever came of it. As soon as the student brothers stood up to him and discussed it with him, he said, “I did not come for harm, and I did not come for ill.” In fact, when some of them wanted to tell the people to leave him alone, to leave him alone, he said, “No, no, no, do not drive them away.” Then his father came to me early in the morning and informed me of the man’s condition. The truth is that I was pleased that there were no motives behind the matter, but rather that he was a man who seemed to have some excessive jealousy. Yes, and he had some lightness of mind. So what happened happened. But people, as you know, build a dome from a grain. Yes, some people called some of our relatives and said that he meant me, that I was being transferred to Riyadh. This, my brothers, is so-and-so in my house. They said, “No, but tell us which room in the Saudi hospital, or something else.” It is strange. Some people even said, “May it not be that they perform the funeral prayer for you in your absence.” Such rumors should never be believed. A person must verify things. I reassure you that the matter is ordinary, there are no motives behind it, and it is something that can happen to some people because of the jealousy and impulsiveness they have. In fact, the man asked that I face him and said, “Let the Shaykh talk to me.” He said, “The Shaykh, and I hope to be a Shaykh in the future, let the Shaykh talk to me for two minutes and I will leave; I will not stay here.” This indicates that the man was not driven by hatred, resentment, or anything that would not have a good outcome. So I reassure you that, praise be to Allah, the matter is normal. We ask Allah to heal him and protect him from what has befallen him, and to protect everyone with faith and righteousness. Indeed, He is Generous and Bountiful.

The questioner : The one who has accustomed us, and may Allah grant him understanding, to give us this, and we ask Allah that there be no embarrassment in it, because we have become accustomed to having a meeting before every month of Dhul-Hijjah. Many questions have come asking about Hajj, so the Shaykh must give an answer.

The Shaykh : By Allah, I cannot, because Sunday night, as you know, is reserved every month. If I see that the time will be tight for us, we can make it other than Sunday night. Yes, we can make it other than Sunday night in order to talk about the topic of Hajj. This meeting must take place, if Allah wills, after the twentieth of this month, and it will be announced at that time, if Allah wills. Yes.
