Allah the Exalted said: “We have known what the earth consumes of them, and We have a preserving record.”

The Shaykh : Then Allah the Exalted said: We have known with Our vast knowledge. Allah Mighty and Majestic says, “We have known,” meaning with His vast knowledge, that is, from their bodies. That is, even if they were dust, the matter is preserved, known, and recorded. That is, a book that preserves everything the earth consumes of them. When a person is buried, the earth consumes him, starting with the exterior of his body, then moving to the interior. Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) knows the amount the earth consumes of him, except for one category of people: the earth does not consume them, and they are the prophets. The earth never consumes anything of the prophets. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: So they remain, and nothing is diminished from them. As for other than the prophets, some of the righteous may be honored such that the earth does not consume their bodies, but the original rule is that the earth consumes all the sons of Adam, except the prophets.
Allah the Exalted said: From where? From which... from their bodies that the earth consumes after their burial. Allah the Exalted has known that, and We have a preserving record: that is the Preserved Tablet in which Allah has written the measures of everything until the Day of Resurrection.
