The questioner : May Allah reward the honorableThe Shaykh : The imam forgot the fourth rak'ah in the Zuhr prayer and stood for it after the taslim, so a discussion arose in the mosque. One group said to the imam: It would have been better for you to stand for the fourth rak'ah without takbir. Another group said: No, rather you should stand with takbir. Which group is correct?

The Shaykh : The correct group is the one that says a person should stand to make up what he missed, or what he forgot, without takbir. For example, if a man says the taslim in the Zuhr prayer after three rak'ahs and then remembers, he enters his prayer and stands without takbir. This is because the takbir here is for standing up from prostration, and that has already occurred. So he stands without takbir. Also, if he said takbir, people would think it was the takbir of ihram and the beginning of a new rak'ah, thereby separating the last rak'ah from the rest of the prayer. Therefore, we say he stands without takbir. However, the question remains: what if there are people praying in another part of the mosque? How can he alert them? We say he can alert them by reciting the basmalah or the first verse of Surat al-Fatihah loudly, so that they know he has entered their prayer. Yes.
