He spoke about the pants, and about imitating the disbelievers, and about a woman imitating a man and a man imitating a woman.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : Then, if a man is afflicted with wearing pants, he should divorce his wife with three pronouncements, because the defect of these pants is not only that they are below the ankles; their defect is that they, or even more so, reveal the 'awrah (part of the body that must be covered). When the worshipper prays and bows and prostrates, his buttocks are exposed, whether they are large, small, or medium. Any garment that reveals the 'awrah is forbidden. Do you see if a woman wore a garment that revealed her buttocks and her thighs, and this woman is the wife of the man wearing the pants? Would he be pleased with this revealing garment on his wife? I say, if he has even a grain of Islamic jealousy, I say he would not be pleased with it for her. Why? Because it reveals her 'awrah, even to her mahram (a relative one may not marry). He would not be pleased with that because it is her 'awrah. So why would he be pleased for himself to reveal his 'awrah? There is no difference between the 'awrah of the woman and the man regarding what is from the navel to the knee; this is the man's 'awrah. As for the woman, her 'awrah, as you know, is her entire body except the face and the hands, according to a well-known disagreement among scholars. So whether the man wears a garment that reveals his 'awrah, or the woman wears a garment that reveals her 'awrah, both are in the same position. Both expose themselves to punishment and retribution. So this pant is not Islamic clothing. Before we think about whether it is permissible for the pant to be long, below the ankles, we must think about whether it is permissible to wear the pant at all, even if it is above the ankles? The answer is that this pant known today is not permissible to wear because it reveals the 'awrah of the thighs and the buttocks, and perhaps sometimes, if it becomes tighter and more form-fitting, it reveals not only the buttocks but also the testicles. How can a Muslim say that this is permissible clothing for a Muslim to wear, even if it is not longer than the prescribed limit, as we mentioned earlier? And therefore, what is tailored for the disbelievers is not permissible for the Muslim to wear. What is tailored for women is not permissible for men to wear, because both of these matters fall under the prohibited imitation.
He who copies any people is one of them. من تشبه بقوم فهو منهم
Sunan Abi Dawud 4031Hasan Sahih (Al-Albani)
So it is not permissible for the Muslim to imitate the disbeliever. It is not permissible for the woman to imitate the man. It is not permissible for the man to imitate the woman. These are matters and behaviors that have departed from Islam in the lives of Muslims today. The cause is colonialism, which Muslims were afflicted with, and their lands were occupied for many long years. Then, when the colonizers left, they left behind their traditions and customs, so Muslims continue to deal with them, and most people are unaware of them. The responsibility falls on the scholars who do not convey the message to the people and do not teach them their religion, whether it relates to creed, worship, or behavior. This is what I have in answer to that question. Please.
