He spoke on the ruling regarding seeking the assistance of polytheists.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : ... He is the one who established that principle which cannot be touched, namely his saying (peace and blessings be upon him):
We do not want any help from a polytheist.
Sunan Abi Dawud 2732Sahih (Al-Albani)
as in Sahih Muslim. This hadith was narrated by Imam Muslim in his Sahih, traced back to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) with this wording:
We do not want any help from a polytheist.
Sunan Abi Dawud 2732Sahih (Al-Albani)
, and Abu 'Abd Allah al-Hakim al-Naysaburi narrated it in his book known as al-Mustadrak 'ala al-Sahihayn with the wording:
We do not seek the assistance of polytheists against polytheists.
Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah 30:610
. The reason for its occurrence is that a group of polytheists came to him (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) offering to fight alongside him against an enemy among the polytheists. So he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
We do not seek the assistance of polytheists against polytheists.
Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah 30:610
. Therefore, the second state seeking the assistance of polytheists from all the American, British, and other peoples whose names you have heard is a clear contradiction of such a hadith. And we are not unaware of what is circulated among some people that they relied on certain specific incidents that occurred during the time of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) and they clung to them and used them to justify seeking aid and assistance from these disbelievers. We say: All the specific incidents that can be used as evidence, whether their chains are authentic or weak, none of them resembles even a fraction of a thousandth, or more, of seeking the assistance of these disbelievers with whom the problem occurred in Saudi Arabia today. I point to this to indicate that there is a great difference between, for example, some people’s argument using the borrowing of weapons or armor by the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) from Safwan ibn Umayyah. Safwan was in Mecca at that time and was still a polytheist, so he (peace and blessings be upon him) asked him for what he had of armor or weapons. Consider with me now the essential difference between that assistance and this assistance. When the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) asked Safwan for what he asked for, Safwan feared that it might be an encroachment by him (peace and blessings be upon him) upon Safwan’s property, so he said: “By force, O Muhammad, or a loan to be repaid?” He said:
Rather, it is a loan to be repaid.
. The point in Safwan’s statement is that first, he feared that the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) would confiscate this property from Safwan. Why? Because he was in a position of strength, and the position of the disbelieving polytheist was one of weakness. Therefore, he said: “Are you taking this from me by confiscation and force, or is it a loan to be repaid?” And it was not permissible for the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) to seize anyone’s property without right. So he said to him:
Rather, it is a loan that will be repaid.
. But now, the situation is completely reversed. The assistance of Muslims by disbelievers today is not at all like that assistance. The one seeking assistance is in a position of weakness, and the one being sought for assistance is in a position of strength. If this assistance is not what is directly intended by the two previous hadiths
We do not want any help from a polytheist.
Sunan Abi Dawud 2732Sahih (Al-Albani)
or
We do not seek the aid of polytheists.
Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah 30:610
, then that means nullifying this principle established by the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family), because we cannot imagine a more disbelieving and more entrenched assistance in misguidance and in the bad consequences that will result from this assistance. We cannot imagine any assistance like it. So how is it accepted and how is it permitted by such a specific incident and what resembles it, where in all the incidents referred to, the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) was in a position of strength, and those who offered assistance to our Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) were in a position of weakness, and they wanted their assistance to the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) to give them a hand with him. Therefore, the difference between the two assistances is vast, and without doubt, the matter is as it was said in the past. We pause here for a little or a lot, I do not know, until we respond to the call for food, as it was said in the past:
“The sun rose in the east and I went west; *** How great is the difference between east and west.”
Where is his saying (peace and blessings be upon him):
We do not want any help from a polytheist.
Sunan Abi Dawud 2732Sahih (Al-Albani)
and where is the assistance of the Messenger in those specific incidents where his position was one of strength and our position today is one of weakness? And as was said recently:
“This difference between us is enough for you *** And every vessel emits what is in it.”
And peace be upon you...
We return to what we were discussing and to our speech, because this reality is represented by three matters. We have spoken about two of them in some detail, and they are the two that relate to the two states mentioned earlier. It remains for us to speak about the third matter, which relates to the Muslim peoples and individual Muslims who usually care first about knowing the rulings of the Shari'ah and then about applying them to themselves. This is because knowledge of a thing does not suffice without acting upon it; indeed, knowledge of a thing with turning away from acting upon it may be worse for its owner than ignorance of it. This is a long topic and time does not allow us to enter into it, but it is sufficient for us from that the saying of our Lord (Blessed and Exalted is He):
(2) O you who have believed, why do you say what you do not do? (3) Great is hatred in the sight of Allah that you say what you do not do.
[As-Saf 61:2-3]
. We add to that the report from the Salaf narrated from Abu al-Darda, the noble Companion, where he said: “Woe to the ignorant person once, and woe to the knowledgeable person seven times.” Therefore, I speak about those whose concern is to know the rulings of their Lord and to act upon them. What is the obligation of the individual Muslim today and the Muslim peoples regarding this overwhelming trial that has befallen the Muslim community? My answer to this is that I narrate to you a hadith from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) that applies to this time perfectly, namely his saying (peace and blessings be upon him and his family):
Indeed, before the Hour will come trials like pieces of the dark night. A man will be a believer in the morning and a disbeliever in the evening, and a disbeliever in the evening and a believer in the morning. One of them will sell his religion for a small price of this world.
. And in a narration, he (peace and blessings be upon him) says, and I see this saying applies to many people today in this time, who are dealing with this sudden problem with their desires and not by relying on the Shari'ah of their Lord. That is his saying (peace and blessings be upon him):
The men in this trial, or in these trials, have minds like dust. They think they are upon something, but they are not upon anything.
. You find people today, individuals among people, speaking with their desires, not considering in that a Book or a Sunnah. So one is fanatical for that aggressing state, and this one is fanatical for the state that brought the calamity to its land and country, which is the calamity of the occupation of the disbelievers, at our request, of the lands of Islam. They speak without knowledge and without reason. The previous hadith is true of them, and their saying is like vapor; they think they are upon something, but in my opinion they are not upon anything. And I do not think that anyone will oppose what I will say: that the Islamic world has not been struck in its essence by a trial like the one that has befallen the lands of Islam in this recent period. Therefore, this trial, in relation to the time that has passed, is the first to which the previous hadith applies
Before the Hour comes, there will be tribulation like pieces of black night, when a man will wake up as a believer but be a disbeliever by evening
Sunan Ibn Majah 3961Hasan (Darussalam)
to the end of the hadith. No one doubts that this calamity is, until now, the greatest calamity that has occurred and struck the lands of Islam. And so...
