Prohibition of a Muslim mixing with a disbeliever and residing with him (and the meaning of the hadith: “Whoever associates with a mushrik is like him”)

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : From this comes a very important Islamic principle, which is that it is not permissible for a Muslim to mix with a disbeliever, or to associate with him, let alone to reside with him in his land or region. Many, and very many, hadiths have come regarding this, and I do not need to enter into this field now, but I will limit myself to one hadith, which is from the comprehensive words of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), namely his saying:
Whoever mixes with the polytheist is like him من جامع المشرك فهو مثله
,
Whoever associates من جامع
This means mixing, not the meaning that comes to mind from the word “jama’” (associate). Whoever mixes with a mushrik is like him. Why? Because nature is a thief without awareness. Therefore, you find that people who mix with disbelievers and women who mix with disbelieving women are all affected by their customs and traditions. The greatest example of this, which does not require much reflection or reasoning, is when the disbelievers occupied the Islamic lands and spread their customs and traditions there. What happened to the Muslims? They were affected by their customs and traditions. So what will be the state of a Muslim if he moves from an Islamic country to a disbeliever’s country? There is no doubt that his being affected by residing with and associating with these disbelievers will be even stronger in its effect on him. Thus, this is the apparent effect. So you must not be negligent regarding the care of rectifying the apparent, for rectifying the apparent is first a title for the inner and a cause for rectifying this inner. This is what I wanted to draw attention to on the occasion of the gathering in the council of knowledge and not dispersing in it.
And now, if you have some questions, we will listen to them, if Allah wills, and answer what is easy of them:
