Explaining the ruling on standing for a man entering the gathering, and completing the discussion on the issue of starting with the right side in serving drinks

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : We are reminding you of another Sunnah, and as they say, the matter has many branches. In some countries, like this country, standing for the person who enters is a Sunnah, but like that other Sunnah, it has no basis in the Sunnah. Standing for the person who enters: the master of the house and the owner of the home stands for the one who enters, but those sitting there do not stand; the Sunnah is the opposite of that.
I do not want to get into this issue so as not to waste more of your time, but I want to say that in some countries this bad custom, which contradicts the Sunnah, does not exist. When the elder of the people enters, none of them moves; he sits where they have prepared a place for him. But in other countries, people have the custom of standing for the one who enters, and if they do not stand for him, the soul that commands evil does its work in the mind of this person who entered.
And perhaps if he has authority, or leadership, or power, he may harm some of those who did not stand for him in that manner.
So if people have the custom of not standing, and a person enters, he does not take it upon them, because he says, "This is their custom."
Likewise, if Muslims have the custom of starting with the right side, it does not cause
some of the attendees to have questions or objections, asking why he started with this one and left that one, and so on.
And finally, I say, you know that among the principles of Islam that honor Muslims is the saying of the Mighty and Majestic:
Allah intends for you ease and does not intend for you hardship يريد الله بكم اليسر ولا يريد بكم العسر
[Al-Baqarah 2:185]
.
The application of this correct Sunnah,
The right-handed ones, then the right-handed ones الأيمنون فالأيمنون
, is understood by everyone, even the common people, and there is no difference between the elder and the younger.
As for starting with the elder of the people, as I say in many cases regarding this occasion, it requires that the one serving the people be an Ibn Khaldun of his time, knowing the ranks of men and their stations. Is this possible? This is impossible; rather, it is of the nature of imposing what is not bearable. But if you start with your right side, the problem is solved. This is related to his saying (peace and blessings be upon him):
Make things easy and do not make them difficult. يسروا ولا تعسروا
.
The facilitation is starting with the right side of the one serving, not with the elder of the people. And this is sufficient, and I apologize if I have taken up your time.
